Cecile John Rhodes was an important, if controversial, figure in South Africa’s history, and was memorialised with this granite monument, designed by Sir Francis Macey and Sir Herbert Baker. The memorial is positioned on his favourite spot on the slopes of Devil’s Peak, and has magnificent views of Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs and beyond. The family-friendly Rhodes Memorial Restaurant and Tea Garden is very popular for breakfast, lunch or tea and scones, and offers kids plenty of entertainment too.
